Frequently Asked Questions

MISCELLANEOUS

When should I schedule my photoshoot?

I am sometimes booked a few months in advance, so schedule your session as soon as you decide you want one! If you want a session sooner than that, feel free to inquire anyway- I do sometimes have last-minute availability. If you are expecting, it is best to reserve your newborn session while you are still pregnant to ensure that the session can occur while baby is still tiny.

What do I wear?

We will go over this in your pre-session consult. A few rules: avoid big, bold patterns; avoid sleeveless shirts; be comfortable! For newborn sessions, white, cream, and grey tops look best. Check out this pinterest board for inspiration on coordinating outfits with a spouse or kids.

Will I get the copyright with the digital files?

You will receive printing and sharing rights with your high-resolution digital files. This means that you can print them for personal use and share them on social media. The photographer retains copyright and owns the image- this is standard practice in the photography field.

I don’t want my photos online. Do I have any say in this?

If you don’t want any of your photos online or used in marketing materials, then I will honor your wishes! There is a spot in the contract where you can specify this.

NEWBORN

Do I need to bring any props to my session?

Nope! I have lots of blankets, hats, and headbands for your little one. If you would like to bring one or two small things that have meaning to you (an heirloom blanket, your dogtags, a little stuffed animal that matches the nursery) I can incorporate them into a photo. However, I wouldn’t recommend bringing more than one or two of these, to ensure that the session flows smoothly.

My newborn has jaundice/acne/dry skin… is this a problem?

Not at all- this is quite common. I do retouch every single photo that you receive, and evening out skin tone and correcting discolored skin is part of that process, from newborns to adults.

MATERNITY

When should my maternity photos take place?

It is best to do maternity photos between 28-35 weeks. At this point, your baby bump is nice and round, plus you will probably still be feeling pretty good (as opposed to those last few weeks before birth that can be pretty rough!)

CAKE SMASH

Is the cake included in the cake smash session?

The price of the cake is not included in a cake smash session. I will send you a few recommendations for local bakers so that you can choose and be in direct contact with them regarding the design of the cake and any possible allergies. You will simply pick-up the cake from your chosen baker and bring it with you to the session. We will also discuss the cake theme and colors during our in-person consult, so that I can provide a coordinating set-up for your photos.
