I had such a great time photographing this fun family at NCMA Park this Summer for their Raleigh family pictures. What a gorgeous day it was, and they were ready to play and have fun at their session! With young children, I love to have them play games so they are comfortable during the session. It also helps to get those natural expressions. It’s not easy to get a little one to sit still for multiple “formal” photos! I find that breaking them up really helps to get a well-rounded gallery.
The kids run the show during a photo session! I always start off with a posed, formal picture to kind of “get it out of the way”. After that, I start playing games to loosen everyone up. I usually attempt one more formal picture halfway through the session, so that parents have two to choose from!
Biiiiig squeezes always get smiles out of kids, even shy ones!

One of my favorite things about NCMA is this spot, where I can get a nice silhouette of the whole family!
I always try to get a photo of just mom and dad alone- often it is the first professional photo they have of themselves since their wedding!
